Japanese Meiji Bronze Vase

From the late 19th or early 20th century, this brass vase is adorned with Dragon-fish handles that are spewing waves from their mouths. The body is decorated with panels of birds and flowers. The neck is decorateed with an archaistic phoenix in the style of Suzuki Chokichi. The chrysanthemum form base is supported on four cabriole legs rising from a relief cast ring. The top section rotates on the bottom section.

This piece is unmarked and in very good condition.

Suzuki Chokichi (1848-1919), renowned for his realistic ornamental sculpture, was the director of the metal casing division of Kiryu Kosho Kaisha, a state endorsed area trading company promoting Japanese craft.
