19th Century Town Crier Muffin Bell

This 19th century Muffin Bell was used by Town Criers and for fire alarms. It has a hand turned wooden handle and two brass muffin-shaped bell halves. It has an internal double strike clapper. The bell halves are slightly offset in the handle so that the clapper makes a double strike sound. This two-toned ring made it easily distinguishable from a regular hand bell.
